Sephora by OPI What's Your Sign? nail polish

What's Your Sign?
Three coats of What's Your Sign?, Sephora by OPI.

I'm torn about this shade. I don't really have anything similar and think it's a cute Spring-like shade, but I'm not thrilled with how it looks with my coloring. Think I might try to trade it for another shade.

Fancy Mystery Box for Women

After seeing a few awesome Fancy mystery boxes online, I decided to take the plunge and order one of my very own. I should have known better, as I've never had much luck with my Fancy boxes.

Fancy Mystery Box
Was excited when I saw the size of the box. Started imagining what awesome goodies might be hiding inside! It was strangely light though, which should have been my first warning.

Fancy Mystery Box
My first look, which was certainly a mystery! At first, I thought this was some kind of new wrapping for bubble-wrapped goods, but turns out that they're just hollow paper tubes for packing.

Fancy Mystery Box
My first look at my mystery box! I'm assuming that they only have one size box for packing, as this is an awful lot of wasted space.

Mystery goodies
Mystery goodies.

LAEX plastic card holder
Disappointment #1 - LAEX plastic card holder.
Seeing the little box this came in, I was hoping for jewelry of some sort. Instead, I get this ugly, plastic card holder. Supposedly worth $27, I can't see anyone ever using this. If you look closely, you can see that it says "Be Foolish" on the front. I feel foolish for getting my hopes up.

Work Hard Stay Humble wall decal
Disappointment #2 - Work Hard Stay Humble wall decal.
This is the second time I've received a wall decal from Fancy, and I won't be using either one. I don't think there's ever been a time in my life when I thought wall decals were a good idea. Can't see this being worth the $20 price listed.

Fancy notebook set
Fancy notebook set
This notebook duo saved the box for me! I collect blank journals and absolutely love the sayings on both covers! I'm a procrastinator, so my husband couldn't stop laughing when he saw the left notebook. They're a little thin for journals, but would make a great book to keep in my bag to jot down notes and such. Think this is definitely worth the $12 list price!

Silver China Glaze nail polish
Silver China Glaze nail polish
I'm a huge fan of nail polish and don't have too many silvers, so this was a nice addition to my box. I can't remember if I've ever used China Glaze polish, but I do like the color. This usually runs around $8 per bottle.

So a mixed bag for me, as half was ugh and the other half was okay. Not as awesome as the boxes I saw with a Nest candle or Ciate nail polish collection, but also not as horrible as some of the other boxes out there. Mystery boxes are always hit or miss, so I guess it was worth the money. Definitely not worth the $67 list price, but okay for the $16.95 I spent ($10 mystery box + $7.95 shipping, minus $1 for using the FOLLOWUP10 discount code).

I went to Fancy.com to chat with one of the agents about the mystery boxes, but he wouldn't budge from the company line that all boxes were random with a wide variety of items. He ignored me entirely when I asked why so many people were receiving the exact same box I did. I also asked if I would receive different items if I ordered a second box, but he just kept insisting all boxes were random. Despite my temptation to try for a Nest candle, I'm going to skip ordering a second box.

Did you order a Fancy mystery box? What did you get? I love seeing all the different boxes out there, even if it causes severe box envy!

Mail Call!

mail call

Having signed up for so many samples and entered so many contests, decided that I needed a place to share the goodies that have started coming in the mail!

Minties
We received a free sample of this dental treat and Waffles loved it! It lasted a little longer than Greenies, but not as long as some of the other dental treats we've tried. Think I'll redeem the included coupon next time I see them on sale.

The Heartworm Journey, Month Two

Waffles

We took Waffles to the vet for her first heartworm shot on March 3rd. Fed her and gave her a Benedryl before we left home. I brought a little tote packed with her blanket, a favorite toy, and some food. She doesn't like the vet's office, so started trembling and crying as soon as we crossed the threshold. It was hard to leave without her.

Even though we've only had her a little over six months, the house felt really strange and empty without her. We both worried all day and wondered how she was doing. When we hadn't heard anything from the vet by 3pm, I called to check on her. Told that she did fine and we could pick her up at 5:30, we both sighed in relief.

Waffles was still a little woozy when they brought her into the examination room for our reunion, but she seemed happy to see us. DH sat on the floor with her, as she was a little wobbly standing. The vet came in to explain what they did that day and gave us instructions for the next month. Antibiotics and Predisone again, with another Heartguard Plus treatment the next morning.

She jumped in the car okay, curled up in the back seat and slept the entire ride home. DH had to lift her out of the car when we got home, probably because she was groggy. We were both afraid to touch her back, so he was really careful. She went right to her living room crate and slept the rest of the night. We had to coax her out of the crate to go outside to potty before bed, then she curled up in her bedroom crate and didn't move all night. Poor baby.

The vet gave us pain pills in case she seemed stiff or sore, but Waffles was a real trooper and didn't need any! She slept most of Tuesday, then gradually got back to normal. I find myself constantly checking her breathing when she's sleeping, but no emergencies so far (knock wood).

March was better than February as she only vomited the thin, yellow bile twice this month. Always in the middle of the night. It's a horrible way to wake up, but doesn't seem to bother her all that much as she just goes back to bed.

I don't like giving her Benedryl every day, but she gets too active when we don't. We had to crate her a couple of times when she wouldn't settle down and wanted to play, but she's been pretty good otherwise.

She seems to have gotten used to being on a leash when we take her out, but has managed to slip her collar twice. Once with DH and once with me, so we now keep an eagle eye on her whenever we're outside. She's a clever girl, and immediately started running laps both times. Fortunately, she's out of shape and only managed a couple of laps before she got tired.

The next big appointment is the 31st, where she'll have to stay overnight and get two shots, 24 hours apart. This one really has me worried, and it's going to be very strange not having her home with us.

Butter London nail mail!

Butter London nail polish
Gilt had a really good sale on Butter London nail polish, so I couldn't resist adding to my collection! I ordered No More Waity, Katie, Cream Tea, and Prince's Plums

 photo BL028.jpg photo BL029.jpg
Two coats of Prince's Plums, with No More Waity, Katie as an accent.

Butter London nail polish
Very disappointed with Cream Tea, as it was still thin and streaky even after two coats. I was hoping to use it as a base for some of my new top coats, but think I'll try to trade it for another white polish. Prince's Plums could have used a third coat too, but I absolutely loved No More Waity, Katie!

If you're interested in joining Gilt, please think about using my invite link to set up an account because we'll both get a discount that way!

Ipsy - March 2014

Ipsy is a beauty subscription box where you receive a Glam Bag full of deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products every month. It's only $10 a month, so overall it's a good deal if you'd like to try products you normally wouldn't buy. I still prefer Birchbox as I wind up using more of their samples, but Ipsy is a fun alternative!

March Ipsy
Love seeing that pretty pink envelope in my mailbox!

March IpsyMarch Ipsy
March goodies! I really like the makeup bag this month.

Nicole by OPI nail polish
Nicole by OPI nail polish in On What Grounds? Textured nail polish featuring speckled, pastel shades with a unique pebbled finish.
I've never used a textured nail polish before and think that this is a fun, Springlike color. I probably wouldn't have picked out this particular shade, but looking forward to trying it!

Be A Bombshell Bora Bora eyeshadow quad
Be A Bombshell Bora Bora eyeshadow quad. A highly pigmented long lasting formula for all day wear.
These are a little brighter than I'd normally choose and I don't know that I'm brave enough to try them. Might put on my trade board instead.

Pixi Beauty Flawless Beauty Primer
Pixi Beauty Flawless Beauty Primer. Loaded with skin loving ingredients and suitable for all skin types.
I've never used a beauty primer before, but already have a trade offer for this one so will wait for the next sample to cross my doorstep.

bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready. Creamy, super-saturated, ultra-pigmented color glides on like butter for full coverage in a rich, satin finish.
Have heard nothing but good things about bareMinerals, so looking forward to trying this lipstick!

Very pleased with my box this month! Have a fun new nail polish and pretty lipstick to try! I looked at the other items available this month and think Ipsy did a pretty good job with picking things for me. I'm still torn about the eye shadow, but may give it a try. Do you subscribe to Ipsy? How did you like your selection this month?

Really love this color! Full coverage with the first coat, but added a second coat just to be on the safe side. And what a pretty color! One of my new faves!

Birchbox - March 2014

March Birchbox
Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription where you receive a mix of beauty products (samples and full size). At only $10 per month, it's one of my favorite beauty boxes and a great deal! I received Box #8 this month and, sad to say, this is the first month I've been disappointed with an entire box.

info card
This month's theme is Spring Forward!

March Birchbox goodies
My March goodies

Air Repair Rescue Balm
Air Repair Rescue Balm.
This all-natural salve repairs dry, cracked skin anywhere on the body.
I use Vaseline for dry, cracked skin, so will be putting this on my trade list.

COOLA Tinted Matte SPF
COOLA Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face.
Organic tinted moisturizer with lasting sun protection that evens tone and masks flaws.
Not a big fan of COOLA products, and my foundation has SPF already so no need for this product. Another item for my trade list!

HAVVN Night Cream
HAVVN Night Cream.
This all-natural, science-backed hydrator visibly reduces wrinkles and revives dull skin.
Thanks to beauty subs, I have enough night cream to last the next decade! And I still prefer my Olay, so not interested in this one either.

Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Body Lotion
Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Body Lotion.
This fast-absorbing hydrator leaves skin silky-smooth with a light, earthy scent.
Again, I have enough lotions to last a lifetime so didn't need another one. It's a really good size though, and does smell nice. May put it up for trade, but might keep.

Harvey Prince Cherie Blossom perfume
Harvey Prince Cherie Blossom perfume sample.
Inspiring scent that mingles sparkling cherry blossom with romantic vanilla and musk.
Smells nice, but I'm swimming in perfume samples right now so don't know that I'd use this.

While I normally love at least some of the items I get from Birchbox, this box was a disappointment. Tweaked my beauty quiz to hopefully get more makeup next time. Did you receive a box this month? What did you think of it? Want to trade?

Swapped my Tini eyeshadow and Zoya polish for different colors. Look how pretty Jenn wrapped my swap! You can't really see it, but there's pretty tissue paper under the bubble wrap. Such a nice surprise!

Tresemme
Received Tresemme conditioner from the Amazon Vine program. I've been looking for a new leave-in conditioner, so hoping it's a good one!

PopSugar Must Have Box for March

The PopSugar Must Have Box constantly gets rave reviews from other bloggers, but I honestly don't see what all of the fuss is about. At $39.95 per month, it's a little too expensive for what you receive in my opinion. Still, I couldn't resist signing up for a 3 month subscription when an awesome deal landed in my lap!

PopSugar Must Have Box for March
One good thing about the PopSugar box is that they wrap everything in pretty pink tissue paper, so it's like unwrapping a gift!

PopSugar Must Have Box for MarchPopSugar Must Have Box for March
First look at my March goodies

Must Have Food:
Snapea Crisps
Harvest Snaps Snapea Crisps.
(MSRP $2)
These are lightly salted, dried pea pods that are surprisingly airy and crispy. Reminded me a little of rice cakes. We ate these as a snack and even DH, who doesn't like peas, enjoyed them!

Must Have Beauty:
Jurlique serum
Julique Herbal Recovery Advanced Serum.
(MSRP $27)
Haven't tried this yet, but it's supposed to diminish dullness, reduce fine lines, and increase hydration while protecting skin from everyday harshness. Sounds promising!

Must Have Home:
Baublebar elephant ring tree
Baublebar Elephant Ring Tree.
(MSRP $12)
Isn't this the cutest little ring tree? I usually don't like ring holders, but fell in love with this little guy as soon as I saw him! He's currently sitting in the middle of my ring bowl and fits right in. So cute!

Must Have Fashion:
Dogeared Lucky Horseshoe necklace
Dogeared Lucky Horseshoe Make a Wish Necklace.
(MSRP $30)
You're supposed to make a wish and wear the necklace until the charm falls off, then your wish will come true. I'd rather put this on a regular chain so I can keep the cute charm!

Must Have Fashion:
Brokedown blue Ikat scarf
Brokedown Blue Ikat Scarf.
(MSRP $72)
This is the main reason I wanted this month's box, as I love the look of this scarf! I have a weakness for pretty scarves, and think this one is a beauty!

Must Have Fitness:
exercise ball
Activeforever Fusion Exercise Ball.
(MSRP $9.95)
This is an odd thing to include in the box, as it's a blow-up ball that you're supposed to use for various exercises. Since you blow it up yourself and seal it, it's not very firm. I can't see actually using it, so will either give it to my dog or throw it away.

Special Extra:
strawberry fig bar
Nature's Bakery All Natural Strawberry Fig Bars.
(~ $2 per bar)
This disappeared quickly! They reminded me of strawberry fig newtons, and I wouldn't mind buying a box! Very tasty!

This box has a suggested retail value of $154.95. I don't know that I would pay the suggested amounts for any of the items, but I'm very pleased with the scarf and ring tree! The ball is a little silly, but I enjoyed everything else! I let my subscription lapse as it's a little too expensive to risk receiving a box I might not like, but next time a great deal comes along, I'm there!

PetSafe Indigo Fresh Sticks Dog Treat

Indigo dental sticks

Looking for dental care while counting calories? Indigo Fresh Dental Sticks are crunchy, low-calorie snacks that help clean teeth and freshen breath with a pleasant minty aroma. Available in Small, Medium and Large.

My Thoughts:

Curious to see how these compare to Greenies, I was excited to receive these for review! They have a nice, fresh mint smell which isn't too strong, but still noticeable. I like the shape as well, as it seems easier for my dog to handle.

It can take her up to 4 minutes to finish one stick, which is practically a record for my avid chewer! Greenies usually only last a minute, if that. Not sure how they fare as a dental tool, but my dog likes them and that's all that counts as far as I'm concerned!

Very pleased with this item, and will be buying again!

Sample provided by Amazon Vine in exchange for an honest review

March Barkbox

BarkBox is, literally, for the dogs. Their goal is to make dogs happy. BarkBoxes contain all-natural treats and other the coolest pup products in each box - things you can't find at the typical big-box pet store. Each monthly box contains a combination of 4-6 treats, toys, and hygiene products that have been hand selected and approved by Scout, head product tester for BarkBox. (website)

BarkboxBarkbox info card
March Barkbox and info card.
This month's box is inspired by a good, old-fashioned breakfast. I can sort of see this theme because of one of the toys and treat, but think they could have included more breakfast-like items.

salmon treats
Barker's Best Wild Pacific salmon treats.
These remind me of hard jerky, but are a little brittle. Not Waffle's favorite, but she will eat them. I don't really care for them because they smell. Well, they are made with salmon, but still...

Twistix dog treats
Twistix dog treats.
One of the few treats that Waffles hides for later. She'll go over several times to check that it's still there, but won't eat it until the next day for some reason. Very amusing, as she usually scarfs down whatever treat we offer.

Wagatha's Breakfast Bisquits
Wagatha's Breakfast Bisquits.
Organic dog bisquits, these were a big hit with Waffles!

Safemade Biggie Bone
Safemade Biggie Bone.
Waffles is a chewer, so I was excited to see this rubber toy! Unfortunately, she has absolutely no interest in it and ignores it. I tried stuffing treats inside, but she just takes the treat and won't play with the bone afterwards the way she does with her Kong toys. Another disappointment.

Aussie Naturals squeaky bacon toyAussie Naturals squeaky bacon toy
Aussie Naturals squeaky bacon toy.
We've gotten toys from Aussie Naturals before and Waffles loved them! Sad to say that this one lasted less than five minutes before she chewed a corner off. Five minutes after that, I had to throw it away because she had destroyed it. Very disappointed with this one, as Waffles loves squeaky toys.
